Weekends never seem to be enough time to feel ready to head into another busy week. And due to the state of the economy, the last few years have brought increased working hours and decreased personal time for millions who are employed. A new survey we conducted for SpringHill Suites finds Americans are not getting vacations as often as they feel they need them, as these breaks from everyday routines are needed to relax and recharge. In fact, millions in the workforce aren’t allotted any paid vacation time, and those who are feel they deserve more. So when Americans do find the opportunity to get away, they want to enjoy several days of relaxation.

But while Americans crave some rest and relaxation, they often don’t prepare in advance. USA Today reported that 50 percent of Americans pack at the last minute, waiting until the day before they leave, or the day they leave, to pack. Men tend to procrastinate more than women, with 54 percent of men and 46 percent of women packing within a day of departing on a vacation.

With the economy improving, 47 percent of Americans aren’t looking for a staycation anymore as they don’t consider a vacation to be a vacation unless they pack up and leave town, noted Travelers Today. And while most Americans have travel budgets, 40 percent admit to breaking them.
