Aruba adds app controls to ClearPass MDM

Aruba Networks Inc. on Wednesday added new mobile app management chops to its ClearPass MDM tool, looking to give IT pros and solution providers a more complete and unified way to handle all phases of a typical BYOD environment.

The new Aruba WorkSpace component extends ClearPass capabilities for provisioning and managing mobile devices by adding network-aware application controls that limit which apps are allowed on the corporate network, enforce network prioritization policies for work applications and change security profiles — such as firing up an application-specific VPN, or shutting down an internal camera — when user devices move between secure and insecure networks or locations.

The improved toolset from Aruba comes at a critical time for partners tasked with managing a growing number of mobile devices and BYOD initiatives for corporate clients. New research from Kelton finds 61 percent of employees who bring their own mobile devices to work are concerned about losing them because they contain corporate data. More troubling from a security perspective: 63 percent admit they wouldn’t report losing a device to their IT department no matter how much critical corporate data was on it.
